AvAUNT: The Consortium

The AvAUNT project is formed of well-established and internationally recognised research and commercial organisations, who come together to form a consortium enjoying strong scientific and commercial expertise in the fields of nacelle development, wind tunnel experimentation and computational aerodynamics.

Aircraft Research Association (ARA):  ARA is an independent research and development organisation specialising in services for the aerospace industry. ARA offers expertise in multiple areas from aerodynamic design, Computational Fluid Dynamics right through to transonic wind tunnel testing.  As such, ARA are supremely positioned to offer invaluable knowledge in the development and understanding of Variable Area Nozzle technology.

Collins Aerospace: Collins Aerospace is a leading provider of aerospace systems and services for large commercial aircraft, including the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350 XWB.  Collins Aerospace design expertise focuses on propulsion system cowlings, inlet cowls, fan cowls, thrust reversers, core cowls and exhaust system technologies.

Queen’s University Belfast (QUB):  Queen’s University Belfast is one of the leading universities in the UK and Ireland, ranked in the top 180 universities in the world and a member of the Russell Group of UK research universities.  Within the context of the consortium QUB are valued for their CFD and numerical modelling expertise.

Together the consortium is positioned to deliver:

  • Access to world class transonic wind tunnel testing capability and internationally recognised academic CFD research capability via partners ARA and Queen’s University Belfast.
  •  A blend of partners with extensive experience of working at different TRL levels to provide necessary insight at all stages of the development process right through to commercial realisation.
